Adenovirus Kit
Adenoviruses, members of the *Adenoviridae* family, are non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA viruses. They primarily infect the respiratory tract, eyes, and gastrointestinal tract, causing illnesses ranging from mild to severe. While infections can occur at any age, they are more prevalent among the young, particularly children. Common symptoms of an adenovirus infection include flu-like signs (such as fever and sore throat), pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and acute gastroenteritis. Individuals with pre-existing cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, or those with a weakened immune system, are at a higher risk of developing more severe forms of the infection. Transmission typically occurs through close contact with an infected person or via the fecal-oral route. Adenoviruses are classified into 6 subgenera and over 40 subtypes. Enteric adenoviruses—specifically types 40 (Ad40) and 41—are the second most common cause of diarrhea in children (after rotavirus) throughout the year. Early detection of the infection through simple testing plays a vital role in initiating treatment and alleviating symptoms.
