Malaria Kit
Malaria is a severe, mosquito-borne disease caused by five species of parasites belonging to the genus *Plasmodium* (*P. vivax*, *P. falciparum*, *P. malariae*, *P. ovale*, and *P. knowlesi*). Infections caused by *Plasmodium falciparum* are most frequently associated with severe malaria and can even be fatal. Symptoms of malaria include high fever, severe chills, and flu-like illness. Early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and for controlling the spread of the infection within the community. With prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment, malaria is curable; conversely, delays in diagnosis and treatment are among the primary causes of mortality in malaria patients. All five *Plasmodium* species share a common enzyme known as “Pan-Plasmodium aldolase,” which is typically targeted in lateral flow immunoassay tests to confirm a malaria infection. In the case of *P. falciparum*, a protein called Histidine-Rich Protein II (HRP-II) is produced in abundance during infection and can be detected in the blood throughout the course of the disease.
Intended Use:
The malaria test is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay designed for the qualitative detection of malaria and the differentiation of the causative parasite species. It achieves this by identifying the Pan-Plasmodium aldolase antigen and the *P. falciparum*-specific antigen (HRP-II) in a whole blood sample. • No cross-reactivity has been observed with positive control samples for HAMA, RF, HBsAg, HBsAb, HBeAg, HBeAb, HBcAb, Syphilis, HIV, HCV, *H. pylori*, MONO, CMV, Rubella, and Toxoplasma (TOXO).
Performance Evaluation:
For Pan (Pan-Plasmodium):
• Sensitivity: 99.9% • Specificity: 99.9%
For *P.f* (*P. falciparum* species):
• Sensitivity: 99.9% • Specificity: 99.1%
